Can I just say… T G I F? I feel like this has just been one of those weeks for everyone. So, let’s raise our glasses to the weekend and push those bad vibes back in our book bags!
As you may or may not have read in my ’Extracting Color’ post, I have shifted my style more toward neutrals and black and white. The fun part about this is that while my outfits are generally monochrome, I can use accent colors in my looks. For example – colored eyeliner, a red watch, or my latest favorite: auburn lips.
Lipstick has always been something I’m kind of iffy about. I love how it looks on everyone else, but something always seems off when I try and wear it. In a procrastination-filled tumblr binge the other day, I was really inspired by girls rocking brown lipstick. While a lot of people were considering what I’m wearing in the picture above as “brown”, I felt auburn was more accurate.
If we’re being honest, here, lipstick is expensive. I don’t know about you, but I rarely even have 10 bucks to shell out for something that isn’t a necessity (such as mascara or liquid eyeliner). For someone who doesn’t think she can pull off lipstick, I have a relatively large collection. In that collection, I had a sample size of a lipstick I had gotten from Sephora as their “birthday gift”. While I loved this color, I realized it was extremely similar to my natural color (no wonder I felt so comfortable in it!)
Inspired by my scrolling, I decided to use that lipstick as a base and then layer different eyeshadows over top to create the color I wanted. It ended up being the absolute perfect color for fall. Pictured below are the two colors I combined to create the hue I was going for, as well as the Sephora lipstick:
