10 Ways to Lead a Happier Life

Happy sunday, everyone! I always complain about losing that hour of sleep, but I really couldn’t be more thrilled about having much more light in my day! I feel so much more energized when the days are longer, don’t you?

Inspired by the wonderful afternoon I had (donuts included), I decided this post was in order. Now that spring is coming around, it’s time to kick those winter blues to the curb. Here are some ways to bring a little more happiness into your life:

1) Let go of what brings you down. It’s really easy to hold on to the things that hurt, but you owe it to yourself to move forward.

2) Live in the present. You can’t change the past, and you can’t predict the future, so why not be present in the life that you live now?

3) Set aside time for yourself. even if it’s just an hour – you can’t give every waking moment to other people.

4) Be considerate of yourself. Say “yes” and “no” whenever you want. Don’t worry so much about displeasing others. You’ll never be able to make everyone happy.

5) Stop comparing yourself to others. Comparison is the #1 way to bring yourself down, so cut that out right now.

6) Don’t put effort into one-way relationships. Of course, things will never be 100% equal, but if you’re doing most of the work, you’re only going to be more and more disappointed. People who care are people who try, and the ones who don’t simply are undeserving of your attention and energy.

7) Indulge every once in a while! This could mean going out to eat (something I am VERY guilty of), buying those shoes you wanted, or even just going to a new place.

8) Listen to yourself. If you enjoy something, try to incorporate it into your life more. If you’re finding yourself thinking negatively, assess what is creating that feeling in your life – and remove it ASAP.

9) Compliment others, and accept compliments as well. Making other people happy is so rewarding, and will benefit everyone. Accepting compliments isn’t easy (I’m still not the greatest at it), but you owe it to yourself. Don’t put yourself down, because that is just degrading and makes the other person feel awkward.

10) Love yourself. this sounds so cliché, but self-love is the key to happiness. Our society is so quick to throw words like ‘conceited’ and ‘cocky’ around, when they are really just being mistaken for confidence. Confidence is the most important thing to leading a happy life.

Hopefully I was able to inspire some of you. I promise these will help – I know from personal experience.

Truly,
Taylor
